I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. Before I respond to the honourable member's question, I would
like to raise a point regarding the Custodial Legislation (Officers Discipline)
Amendment Bill that is currently before the Standing Committee on Legislation.
As we heard today, that committee will report on 11 November, which is while we
are on a break. I will list that bill for debate in the first week back after
the break. If any member is interested in making comment on that bill, they
might like to get a copy of the report and be prepared for that debate in the
first week back after Parliament resumes.
The PRESIDENT : That is your brief ministerial statement!
Hon PETER COLLIER : I did get advice before I did that.
In response to the
honourable member's question —
(a) There are 1 598 students,
including eight part-time secondary students, from China.
(b) There are
2 310 students, including four part-time secondary students, from India.
Part-time secondary students include those participating in
approved alternatives to full-time school, such as part-time vocational
education and training and post-compulsory students at Canning and Tuart Colleges.
