This question is dated 21 September.
I refer to the pressures on the operation of the criminal justice system in Western
Australia.
(1) How many Supreme Court trials
have been conducted in the District Court building this year?
(2) What were those trials, which
courtrooms did they use and how long did these trials last?

of the question. The following answer has been given to me by the Attorney General,
and it was correct as at 21 September 2023.
(1) The Supreme Court has conducted 18 trials in the
District Court building in the year to date, 1 January 2023 until 21 September
2023.
(2) These hearings included 15 trials by jury, two
judge alone trials and one trial of issues. The Supreme Court utilises courtrooms 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4. In
addition, courtroom 5.1 has been utilised this year. The average length
of the trials that proceeded is 8.1 days. A summary of the primary offences
heard are murder, manslaughter and drug offences.
