PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLING — FREMANTLE
514. Hon SUE ELLERY to the
Minister for Education:
I refer to the process of reviewing public secondary
schooling in the Fremantle area.
(1) What
criteria will the state government use to make a decision on amalgamation
and/or closure of any secondary schools in the area?
(2) What is
the time frame for the decision-making process after the public meeting on 4
June, and in what school year will any change commence?
(3) Can the
minister guarantee that the proceeds of any school assets sold as a result of
any amalgamation or closure of secondary schools in the Fremantle area will be
invested back into schools in the Fremantle area?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) The
decision on the preferred model of secondary schooling in the Fremantle area
will be based on achieving the best educational outcomes for all students.
Factors to be considered include the breadth and depth of curriculum,
appropriate academic and vocational pathways, and quality pastoral care and
support services.
(2) A decision
on secondary schooling in Fremantle will be made only when the government is
satisfied that it has all the relevant information, including the outcomes of
public consultation, to inform the decision-making process. I am not in a
position to speculate on possible future time frames.
(3) The
proceeds from the sale of any assets associated with a new secondary schooling
model would be managed in accordance with standard state government procedures.
