(a) The previous government had not classified expenditure contained in the forward estimates between regional Western Australia and metropolitan Western Australia. As a result, this information is not available.
(b) The 2008/09 Budget provided for a total capital works program of $26.1 billion over the period 2008/09 to 2011/12. Of that total, $5.1 billion was specifically allocated to projects in regional Western Australia. There was no significant change to this program between the handing down of the 2008/09 Budget and 6 September 2008. It is also noted that a significant proportion of the capital works program ($13.9 billion over the forward estimates period) cannot be allocated to a specific region, as many projects relate to State-wide initiatives or large infrastructure, such as roads, pipelines or energy transmission lines, that straddle regional boundaries.
(c)
Department of Industry and Resources (Science and Innovation)
The Department's expenditure on recruitment is based on need and is undertaken in a manner that provides the broadest range of applicants. The expenditure is not specifically allocated to regional or other areas.
Builders' Registration Board of Western Australia and Painters' Registration Board
Not applicable. The Builders Registration Board of Western Australia and the Painters' Registration Board are not part of the consolidated fund forward estimates.
Hairdressers Registration Board
Nil
The Small Business Development Corporation
Nil. The SBDC is metropolitan based and does not specifically recruit in regional areas.
WorkCover WA
Not applicable. WorkCover WA is not part of the consolidated fund forward estimates.
The Department of Treasury and Finance
The Department of Treasury and Finance has no expectation to incur recruitment expenditure in regional Western Australia, and as such there are no specific funding allocations for this expenditure in the Department's forward estimates as at 6 September 2008. The Government Procurement Business Unit, which provides Regional Services, achieved a full staffing complement in regional areas as at 6 September 2008.
The Department of Housing and Works and the Housing Authority
Nil
GESB
Nil
The Department of Consumer and Employment Protection
The figures are not readily available as the department does not budget for recruitment costs on a regional basis. However, estimates of regional recruitment budgets based on current regional staffing levels and estimated turnover rates and average recruitment costs results in an estimated $
476k
to be spent on the department's regional recruitment over the 4 years of the forward estimates period currently in the budget papers.
