Kalgoorlie Health Campus—Radiology billing
471. Hon Steve Martin to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the contract for radiology at
Kalgoorlie Health Campus.
(1) Why did the WA Country Health Service
award a contract to Apex Radiology to take over the billing administration for
outpatients at the end of last year?
(2) Was this done at the request of Apex?
(3) Was this an open tender process, and
if not, why not?
(4) What is the total cost of this
specific contract?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. I provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for Health.
(1) The WA Country Health Service awarded
a contract to Apex Radiology to support billing administration due to workforce
challenges in Kalgoorlie and to ensure sustainable service provision locally.
(2) No.
(3) No. Given the proprietary nature of
systems used and the interface with operational service provision, an exemption
to the open tender process was endorsed by the Department of Treasury and
Finance and approved by the Office of the Chief Procurement Officer in line
with Western Australian procurement rules.
(4) The total estimated contract value is
$356,730, inclusive of GST.
