Federal budget—Tax changes
338. Mr Basil Zempilas to
the Premier:
I refer to the
federal Labor government's broken promise to Western Australians on changes to
negative gearing, trusts and capital gains tax in what has been described as
the worst federal budget in four decades.
(1) Does the Premier's Labor government
oppose these tax changes?
(2) Has the Premier specifically raised
with the Prime Minister the disastrous impact of these taxes on WA businesses,
industry, entrepreneurs and investors?
(3) If not, why not?

(1)–(3) I thank the member for the question, and
I note that the member for Cottesloe thought it was a visionary budget, and one
that would tackle generational challenges and make sure we resolve some of the
issues impacting the national economy. We know that the government has brought
down its budget and we will continue to go through deliberations and speak with
the Commonwealth government about these matters.
