DEPARTMENT FOR PLANNING AND INFRASTRUCTURE — DRIVER ASSESSMENTS
From 1 July WA Police will no longer undertake driver assessments in country areas except in some of the remote communities. Given these changes are little more than three months away — (1) Will the minister please advise what processes are being implemented by the Department for Planning and Infrastructure in country areas to replace the current system of driver assessments by police? (2) Will the minister give an assurance that the existing level of assessment services to people in regional and rural communities will be maintained after 1 July this year? (3) Will the minister give an assurance that people who currently have access to driver assessments by their local police will not be required to travel to a large regional centre for assessment after 1 July this year? As I have explained many times to members of the Liberal and National Parties, responsibility for licensing is the responsibility of the Minister Assisting the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure. Mr T.K. Waldron : You’re the Minister for DPI. Ms A.J.G. MacTIERNAN : I am the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure. There is a minister assisting, who is a full minister, and one of her jobs, as has been defined and explained to members time and again, is responsibility for licensing, which includes driver assessments. Of course, understandably, the convention of this place is that if members want to ask a question of a minister in another place they must give notice of that question so that we can answer it.
