MIRRABOOKA MURAL
1438. Hon ALANNA CLOHESY to the
Minister for Housing:
I understand that there might have been some movement on this
matter this morning, and if that is the case that is great. I refer the
minister to the iconic Mirrabooka mural facing the intersection of Yirrigan
Drive and Sudbury Place, Mirrabooka.
(1) Is the Department of Housing planning to pull down the
mural?
(2) If yes to
(1), when; and, what will the department do to ensure that the iconic pictures
that have been present in Mirrabooka on the mural for the past 22 years will
not be lost to the Mirrabooka community?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question. I am not sure whether anything has changed since I was given the
answer this morning, but we will see.
(1)–(2)
The Housing Authority has been advised that the wall on which the mural is
located is no longer structurally sound and as such presents a public safety
issue. The Housing Authority is currently obtaining appropriate technical
advice on the available options to retain the wall and is consulting with the
City of Stirling to obtain relevant approvals. Should it be necessary to
replace the wall, the Housing Authority will investigate options to integrate
the mural's image into any new construction.
