representing the Minister for Road Safety:
I refer to answers provided to the Standing Committee on
Estimates and Financial Operations prior to hearings.
(1) Can the
minister please identify the expenditure that occurred in 2022–23 that
was contrary to the advice of the Road Safety Council?
(2) Can the
minister please identify the quantum and purpose of the funding?
(3) Can the minister please table correspondence
between the minister and the Road Safety Council in relation to this
expenditure?
(4) Has any
expenditure been approved in 2023–24 contrary to the advice of the Road
Safety Council?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) The Road
Safety Council did not support the additional funding of $117 000 for injury
matters, which was subsequently approved by the Minister for Road Safety in
accordance with the Road Safety Council Act 2002.
(2) The quantum of the funding was $117 000 for the
2022–23 financial year. The request was for an additional one
FTE, who would deliver 300 additional counselling support instances, four
education and training sessions and four town visits to engage with
stakeholders each year.
(3) This
correspondence is between the Road Safety Council and the former Minister for
Road Safety.
(4) No.
