This section of Abernethy Road is a four-lane divided carriageway carrying some 18 000 vehicles per day. The traffic signals at the intersections of both Alexander Road and Wright Street, along with a warden controlled school crossing midway between these two intersections, offer students safe points of access across Abernethy Road. New guidelines for the installation of School Zones are currently being drafted, which do allow for 40 km/h School Zone signs to be considered on four and two-lane divided roads carrying over 20 000 vehicles per day, where suitable and preferred crossing treatments can not be made available for students. However, given the availability of the existing signal and warden controlled crossing facilities, it is not considered necessary that a 40 km/h School Zone be provided on this section of Abernethy Road.
