(a) Energy Safety 's investigation into this accident has been completed. It has taken time because some technical aspects were complex and the agency wanted to ensure the investigation was thorough. It also had to wait to have access to the young victims who were recovering at the time and on the availability of other key witnesses.
As a corrective action, Energy Safety has sought and received assurances from Western Power that it has undertaken necessary steps to ensure all poles struck by vehicles are acted upon promptly and are made electrically safe as soon as practicable.
(b) I asked to be provided with regular updates about the progress of the investigation while ensuring I did not put undue pressure for the investigation to be rushed.
(c) Energy Safety will not be publishing a public report about the findings of its investigation. It has recently initiated legal proceedings against some parties involved in this accident.
