Driving laws—Medicinal cannabis
517. Hon Dr Brian Walker to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
Will the Premier
join me in congratulating the Liberal government in Queensland on its
announcement in recent days that it will review its state's driving laws and
changes made to New South Wales laws, which would allow unimpaired drivers to
get behind the wheel with THC in their system? I ask the following in relation
to that announcement.
(1) Has the Premier received any
correspondence from the Queensland Government in relation to its review?
(2) If yes to (1), will he table any such
correspondence and, if not, why not?
(3) Is the Premier also aware that the
ACT is likely to debate similar changes after legislation was tabled in that
jurisdiction late last week and, on that basis, can he share with the house how
it feels to preside over the slowest moving government system in the whole of
Australia?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(3) The state government established the
Medicinal Cannabis and Safe Driving Working Group, and its report remains under
consideration by government. The Premier has not received correspondence from
the Queensland Government regarding medicinal cannabis and driving.
