TRANSPERTH — ROUTE 600 — MANDURAH–PINJARRA
1146. Hon SAMANTHA ROWE to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to a complaint from a resident of north Pinjarra that
the daily bus service from Mandurah to Pinjarra does not travel an extra five kilometres
to service the residents of north Pinjarra.
(1) Will the
minister extend the current bus service to provide a bus transport option to
north Pinjarra residents, many of whom are elderly and cannot travel to the
existing bus route independently?
(2) If no to (1), why not?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1)–(2) Transperth
has no plans, nor resources, to extend the existing route 600 bus service to
north Pinjarra. Any extension to north Pinjarra would add additional kilometres
in each direction, with very little opportunity to attract further patronage.
The route 600 bus service is presently one of Transperth's least-used
services. Very low patronage means that rationalisation has occurred within the
past two weeks. Further service rationalisation may be likely unless patronage
grows. The current service, excluding student travel, is averaging only about
three passengers per trip in the unique section of the route east of Coodanup.
