RETIREE TAX —
FEDERAL LABOR POLICY
185. Mrs A.K. HAYDEN to the Minister for Seniors and Ageing:
I have a supplementary question.
Given that the minister supports Shorten's retiree tax —
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members! Let us
just hear it.
Mrs A.K. HAYDEN : Given that
the minister supports Bill Shorten's retiree tax —
Dr A.D. Buti : There is no
retiree tax!
The SPEAKER : There will be
for you soon, because you are on your second call. Members, I want to hear
this.
Mrs A.K. HAYDEN : Will the
minister talk to Mr Shorten and explain to him how this will have a massive
impact on Western Australian seniors or will he just support it?

AnswerView source ↗

From the Western Australian
government side of things, we are supporting seniors endlessly. We are pushing
every barrow that we have, because we know we have an ageing community. We will
have extremely limited resources if the member's government does not
come in behind us and give us a hand. In the meantime, we are working very hard
with all the advocacy groups to make sure that our seniors are supported. Elder
abuse is only one part of that; there are financial and other areas. We are
looking at all those programs, and, when our budget comes up, members opposite
will get a surprise.
The SPEAKER : That is the end
of question time.
