ENVIRONMENT — ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE AREAS —
GAZETTAL
1030. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Environment:
I refer to the Environmental
Protection Amendment Act 2020 and a commitment made by the state government to
communicate with all landowners who will be affected by the gazettal of
environmentally sensitive areas.
(1) Have any landowners been
contacted by the state government in relation to the gazettal of ESAs?
(2) If yes to (1), how many landowners have been contacted?
(3) Have any ESAs been gazetted to
date since assent was granted on 19 November 2020?
(4) If no to (3), for what reason has the state government
not gazetted ESAs under the act in almost four years?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question. On behalf of the Minister for Environment, I provide the
following answer.
(1) No.
(2) Not applicable.
(3) No.
(4) The role of
environmentally sensitive areas is to be reviewed in the context of the
Department of Water and Environmental Regulation's native vegetation
policy for Western Australia. An implementation road map and consultation on the regulations to enable gazettal will be
undertaken once that review is completed.
