My question relates to Skeetas Garden Restaurant in Geraldton where some apprentices have undertaken the WA technical and further education course. Can the minister please outline why an employer who recruits a new apprentice who has attained a certificate 3 through the completion of a new apprenticeship or a pathway other than the new apprenticeship course is not eligible for financial incentives for the ongoing training of that apprentice? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. Financial incentives for employers to provide training for apprentices is a commonwealth responsibility and paid for by the commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Training. The commonwealth policy on incentives precludes payments to employers in cases where the apprentice has already attained the certificate 3 qualification, either through a new apprenticeship pathway or another pathway course.
