All projects are evaluated and these evaluations are publicly available. A review of project funding was undertaken in 2002. The review found that although there were a number of positive aspects to the projects including the presence of individuals committed to crime prevention, substantial local knowledge, interagency partnerships, there were also weaknesses in identification and analysis of crime problems and in determining appropriate responses and in implementation. This is not uncommon, indeed implementation failure is endemic in major social initiatives and the reasons are related to the capacity of funded organisations and the failure of central agencies to invest for sustainability. The Office of Crime Prevention is now publishing on its new website details of projects it is funding under the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Partnership Fund. Work is underway on including information about the success of these projects.
