PERTH FREIGHT LINK — FEDERAL FUNDING
987. Hon SUE ELLERY to the Attorney General
representing the Treasurer:
I refer to reports that $1.1 billion of federal funding will not be
made available unless sections 1 and 2 of the Perth Freight Link project are
committed to in full.
(1) When was the Treasurer first made aware
that $1.1 billion of federal funding would not be made available if the state
did not commit to both sections 1 and 2 of Perth Freight Link?
(2) Does the Treasurer believe that the
commonwealth will proceed with withholding the full $1.1 billion if the state
does not commit to section 2?
(3) Has the Treasurer seen a copy of the 14
September 2016 letter from federal minister Paul Fletcher to the then Minister
for Transport that sets out the commonwealth's position in relation to
both sections?
(4) If yes to (3), when did the Treasurer first see a copy of the 14
September 2016 letter?

On behalf of the Treasurer I thank the honourable member for some
notice of the question.
(1) We are committed to building the whole
freight link. The commonwealth has made clear from the start its preference for
the whole Perth Freight Link to proceed as a single project since funding was
announced as part of the 2014–15 commonwealth budget.
(2) The state is committed to section 2.
(3) Yes.
(4) It was on 19 September 2016.
