(2) Section 6.47 of the Local Government Act 1995 provides that a local government may resolve to grant a concession or waiver in relation to a rate or service charge. In addition, Section 6.49 of that Act provides that a local government may accept payment of a rate or service due and payable by a person in accordance with an agreement made with that person. As the Hon Member is no doubt aware, I do not have the authority to direct local governments in a matter such as this. However, I have been advised through regular reports from the State Government funded Mortgage Information Service, that several syndicate groups have successfully negotiated with relevant local governments to receive reductions in council rates or the cancellation of particular fees.
