(i) as a result of tunnel construction, will there be any requirement to divert traffic to other roads?
(b) Yes. The cost of building the portion of the Fremantle Road tunnel required for the South West Metropolitan Railway [SWMR] is included in the total New MetroRail budget of $1,419 million. (c) Construction time is dependent on the final schedule adopted when the design and construct contractor is appointed. The current anticipated time for commencement of construction is September 2006. (d) Construction time is dependent on the final schedule adopted when the design and construct contractor is appointed. The current anticipated completion time for the construction is June 2007. (e) December 2007. (f) When the Mandurah Northern Bypass is built, or if the City of Mandurah extends Exchequer Drive, the tunnel will need to be extended. Any such extension is not part of the SWMR Project. (g) & (h) During construction, there will be deviations to Fremantle Road to enable construction of the tunnel. The extent and duration of the road and services deviations will be kept to a practical minimum and will be detailed in a construction and traffic management plan to be prepared by the contractor and approved by the City of Mandurah. It is important to note that this is no different to what would have been required under the previous Government’s Kenwick Deviation project. (i) The details of traffic diversions will be described in the construction and traffic management plan. Road intersection works may require some short-term diversions, which will be minimised to reduce impacts on local road users. Long-term diversions, if any, will be agreed with the City of Mandurah and Main Roads WA during the final design stage. It is important to note that this is no different to what would have been required under the previous Government’s Kenwick Deviation project.
