On behalf of Hon Tom Stephens I thank Hon Bill Stretch for some notice of the question. (1) Since the inception of the water bombing operations in Western Australia in the 1996-97 fire season, a total of 2 500 people comprising employees from the Department of Conservation and Land Management and the Fire and Emergency Services Authority, and volunteers from local government bushfire brigades, have been trained in ground management functions associated with water bombing operations. Incident management functions that have been provided with training include fire controllers, sector commanders, firefighters and aircraft refillers. (2) It is expected that training in the various roles of ground management of water bombers will be delivered by CALM and FESA to about 100 trainees in each of the next two years.
