DEPARTMENT
OF HOUSING — 80 DREW STREET, SPALDING — TEMPORARY FACILITIES
401. Hon DARREN WEST to the
Minister for Housing:
I refer to the ongoing sewerage issues being experienced at
the Department of Housing property located at 80 Drew Street, Spalding, and the
placement of a portable toilet and shower at the front of the property for the
use of that tenant.
(1) How long has the tenant been required to use these
temporary facilities?
(2) As at 17
April 2015, what is the cost of the supply and maintenance of the portable
toilet and shower, including draining of the toilet?
(3) What works
have been planned to address the sewerage issues, when will they commence and
when are they likely to be completed?
(4) Does the
minister consider it acceptable for this tenant—an elderly grandmother—to
be required to use a portable toilet and shower that is open to the public from
the street?
(5) Will the
Department of Housing immediately relocate the affected tenants until such time
as the sewerage problem is solved; and, if not, why not?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1) Temporary
toilet and shower facilities were delivered to unit 9C on 9 April 2015, and to
units 8C and 10C on 17 April 2015.
(2) The
Department received an invoice on 20 April 2015 for the delivery, hire and
service of the temporary toilet and shower facilities to date totalling $2 161.80,
including goods and services tax.
(3) The
Department's plumbing auditor attended the complex today and is
confirming that the proposed scope of works will rectify the plumbing issues.
(4) No, I do
not consider it to be acceptable; however, from time to time plumbing issues
occur that require tenants to use temporary facilities. In this instance it was
not possible to locate the facilities at the rear of the properties concerned.
(5) The
department offered the tenant of unit 9C alternative accommodation; this offer
was declined. The tenants of units 8C and 10C have not requested alternative
accommodation, and the department has been trying to contact them to ascertain
whether either tenant wishes to relocate.
