3. The WA Police Force has in place a policy for which applications for leave without pay (LWOP) can be facilitated for a period of up to 12 months, when all other forms of leave have been cleared. A LWOP agreement may exceed 12 months, where exceptional circumstances exist. Applications for LWOP are subject to the consideration and endorsement of the relevant internal authority depending on duration (up to six months District/Division/Branch Head approval; beyond six months, Deputy Commissioner/Executive Director approval).

5. Prior to 13 May 2022, all LWOP applications, irrespective of duration, were subject to consideration and endorsement of the respective Deputy Commissioner or Executive Director.
