Since March 2013, a total of $0.387 million has been spent on the development of the State CCTV Strategy for Western Australia.
The State CCTV Strategy, which was released on 26 March 2015, has been developed by a Working Group of government and private sector representatives and industry experts. The Strategy outlines a vision and high-level framework for delivering a safer and more secure WA through the coordinated use of CCTV technology.
A key objective of the State CCTV Strategy was to assist making local communities safer by providing grants to local governments through a $5 million State CCTV Strategy Infrastructure Fund, to install CCTV cameras and associated infrastructure in crime hotspots. Applications for Expressions of Interest under the State CCTV Strategy Infrastructure Fund closed on 18 December 2015 and a decision on successful recipients will be announced soon.
Work is continuing on the replacement of the current State CCTV Register (Blue Iris) and on investigating the feasibility of a ‘Connected CCTV Solution’, which will enable WA Police and other emergency services to remotely view CCTV footage from high value donors. A total of $3 million in capital funding has been allocated for this purpose in 2016-17.
