Drug and Alcohol Office
The Drug and Alcohol Office provides a brochure promoting the Alcohol and Drug Information Service (ADIS), and a separate brochure promoting the Parent Drug Information Service (PDIS). Disability Services Commission
The Disability Services Commission works with people with disability, their families and carers who need information in a language other than English in a variety of ways tailored to particular needs:
· Local Area Coordinators use interpreters for face to face meetings and organise the translation of documents as required.
· Brochures and other information are provided in alternative formats, including other languages, on request.
· The WA NDIS My Way brochure has been translated into eight community languages - Croatian, Polish, Spanish, Swahili, Vietnamese, Chinese, Arabic and Hindi.
· The Disability Services Commission's complaints brochure (a new version is anticipated to be completed in April 2015) has translated information advising that the brochure can be provided in other languages including Vietnamese, Swahili, Somali, French, Bahasa Indonesian, Arabic and Chinese.
· The Commission provides annual funding to the Ethnic Disability Advocacy Centre (EDAC), the peak advocacy organisation for people with disability from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) backgrounds in Western Australia, to enable it to provide individual and systemic advocacy.
· The Commission is also funding EDAC for a project to establish the information and networking needs of people with CaLD backgrounds to assist their full participation in, and access to, suitable support through the National Disability Insurance Agency NDIS and WA NDIS My Way trials. The grant will assist the dissemination of information about the trials and individualised services, including information via web-based systems and printed materials.
Department for Child Protection and Family Support

Staff have access to a range of resources to assist in working with and responding to the specific cultural needs of CaLD families in a child protection setting. This includes adopting and implementing the WA Language Services Policy 2014, and providing staff with practice guidance and resources on the use of interpreters and translators required by clients from culturally diverse backgrounds.
The Department is also currently developing a website welcome message with client services information accessible in 20 languages. This will be available on the Department's website by the end of May.
