I refer to Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) services that are operating at a level of maximum approved capacity, and I ask: (a) what is the process for an OSHC provider operating on a public-school site to apply to increase the number of approved places; (b) what department is responsible for assessing applications to increase the number of approved places; (c) what building requirements must be met to increase enrolment capacity; and (d) have schools and providers been given information from the Department of Education about expanding OSHC services?

(a)   A centre-based approved Early Childhood Education and Care service needs to apply for a change of the maximum number of places by submitting an application for amendment of service approval via the National Quality Agenda IT System Portal.
(b)   The Department of Communities’ Education and Care Regulatory Unit (ECRU).
(c)   The service must have sufficient indoor and outdoor space allocated. Spaces are assessed to ensure they meet legislated requirements, including providing adequate unencumbered space per child, the space allowing for effective supervision, and ensuring appropriate natural light and ventilation.
(d)   Expansion of a service is an arrangement between the provider and the school. Once an application submitted by the provider has been lodged, ECRU will initiate an assessment.
