PASQUALE MINNITI - AUSTRALIAN LABOR PARTY
I refer to the Corruption and Crime Commission investigation into the activities of Pasquale Minniti. (1) Have any current members or ministers in the government had any dealings with Mr Minniti; and, if so, what was the nature of those dealings? (2) Is it the case that Mr Minniti is a long and close associate of the Labor Party? (3) Can the Premier confirm that Mr Minniti’s premises were used by the Labor Party in 2001 for the launch of an election policy, which was attended by former Premier Geoff Gallop and by the former Minister for Small Business, the then Labor candidate and now current member for Yokine? Mr A.J. CARPENTER

(1)-(3) I find this line of questioning very interesting because there is a long, long list of criminal types who have been through the Liberal Party. Have they not? Why do we not dig a few of those skeletons out? Why do we not dig out a few of the rotting corpses? There were a couple of drug dealers. One was a divisional president at one stage. Is that not right? What was his name? Brazier. He was a drug dealer. He was not a guy running a panel beating business with a Walter Mitty complex. He was a drug dealer. He was a divisional president! The Liberals had a bloke who was charged and put in jail for perjury. I believe that was the case. Mr P.D. Omodei interjected. Mr A.J. CARPENTER : I did not. I do not believe that I have ever met him. Mr C.J. Barnett : How many members opposite have met Mr Minniti? Hands up. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order! I call the member for Central Kimberley-Pilbara to order for the first time and the Leader of the Opposition to order for the third time. I also call the member for Cottesloe to order for the first time. Mr A.J. CARPENTER : As I understand it, there was a policy launch in 2001 at the premises the Leader of the Opposition inquired about. As to how many people in the Labor Party know Mr Minniti, I do not know. He seems to have a vast array of contacts. Apparently, he was also a member of the Labor Party at some stage. I do not know whether he still is. I do not believe he is. Apparently, he can pick up the telephone and speak to Ric Arden and get the news bulletins doctored. He can also call Mr Brian Bull. That is Mr Minniti’s view of the world. I do not know how many people he knows. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order, members! Mr A.J. CARPENTER : I would love someone to keep a register of how many questions the member for Cottesloe asks by interjection and how many he asks on his feet! I know the answer to the latter. What was the first question? Mr P.D. Omodei : Have any current members or ministers in the government had any dealings with Mr Minniti; and, if so, what was the nature of those dealings? Is it the case that Mr Minniti is a long and close associate of the Labor Party? Can the Premier confirm that Mr Minniti’s premises were used by the Labor Party in 2001 for the launch of an election policy, which was attended by the former Minister for Small Business, the then Labor candidate and now current member for Yokine? Mr A.J. CARPENTER : I thank the member. I believe I have provided an answer to the last two questions. I look forward to the Leader of the Opposition’s answer about how many members on his side were close associates with a convicted drug dealer, not to mention a perjurer, and what relationship they had with him in their political careers and whether or not that means that the Leader of the Opposition is not a fit and proper person. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order, members! Mr A.J. CARPENTER : Do I recall a certain doctor who was the Mayor of Wanneroo who played a significant role in the Liberal Party at one stage? He was a man named Bradshaw. He specialised in disfiguring people’s faces all around the world and taking their money. Do members remember him? I think he provided a fairly bodgie hair transplant for the former member for Wanneroo. I ask members opposite to put up their hands if they have ever had anything to do with Dr Bradshaw. Come on; put up hands. Here is one! One thing we do know: the former mayor never performed any operation on the member for Cottesloe! That is a compliment to him. I do not know how many members of the Labor Party have had contact with Mr Minniti but if his phone records are - Mr P.D. Omodei interjected. Mr A.J. CARPENTER : How many members of the Liberal Party have had dealings with Mr Minniti? Mr P.D. Omodei : None of mine. Mr A.J. CARPENTER : Have they been asked? What an outrage! The Leader of the Opposition has not asked them. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order, members! Mr A.J. CARPENTER : If the Corruption and Crime Commission seeks to interview any member of the Parliamentary Labor Party about Mr Minniti, I am absolutely confident that he or she will cooperate in providing his or her presence at such an inquiry and answer the questions there. I do not know how many people Mr Minniti knows across the community who are associated with members of the Labor Party, his length of tenure in the Labor Party, and whether he is a member of the Liberal Party. I do not want to know particularly. If there have been issues that demand investigation, now that the Corruption and Crime Commission seems to have focused fairly intently on Mr Minniti, I am sure that information will emerge.
