ROADS — CURTIN AVENUE — REALIGNMENT
1382. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the Premier's commitment in January 2013
to realign Curtin Avenue by 2015–16, and in particular the comment in
his newsletter that heavy traffic on Port Beach Road has made it increasingly
dangerous for beachgoers.
(1) What was
the traffic volume on Port Beach Road in 2013; and what is the traffic volume
on Port Beach Road in 2015?
(2) What is the estimated traffic volume on Port Beach Road in
2018–19?
(3) Will Main
Roads WA be undertaking any measures to ensure the safety of beachgoers until
the realignment is completed?
(4) If no to
(3), does the minister consider it safe that beachgoers will have to dodge cars
and trucks for another three years in order to get to the ocean?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) The
traffic volume on Port Beach Road in 2013 was 15 440 vehicles per day; and the
traffic volume on Port Beach Road in 2015 is 14 910 vehicles per day.
(2) The estimated traffic volume is between 15 500 and 18 500
vehicles per day.
(3) Currently,
parking for Port Beach is on the western side of Port Beach Road. Pedestrians
wishing to cross Port Beach Road to access the beach can do so safely by
crossing the road in two stages using the central kerbed median.
(4) Not applicable.
