❓ The Minister for Health avoids directly answering the question about the financial impact of not signing an agreement, instead accusing the opposition of siding with the federal government and undermining WA's healthcare system.

I ask a supplementary question. Given the current crisis in our hospitals, will the minister admit that this State cannot afford to lose $65 000 a day from this weekend onwards if it does not sign the agreement? Mr J.A. McGINTY

I am pleased that the member for Murdoch has come back for another round. Is the member for Murdoch aware of what reduced funding for hospitals will do to the capacity of this State Government, or any future State Government, in the next five years to deliver what the people of Western Australia want by way of health care? Of course, Kay Patterson wants members opposite to roll over so that the federal Liberal Party can get its way. The member for Murdoch should stand in this place for the people of Western Australia, not roll over so that Kay Patterson can tickle his stomach. A less gutless approach on behalf of all members of this Parliament would be to campaign hard to get the best possible deal for Western Australia and the people who need public hospital treatment and care. Members opposite should fight for those people and not deliver for Kay Patterson and John Howard when they take money from WA hospitals.
