I refer the Premier to a report on Radio 6PR this morning that a former Labor backbencher and now lobbyist, Megan Anwyl, was allowed to brief Cabinet for up to 30 minutes on an issue of importance to one of her clients. (1) Can the Premier confirm this extraordinary report; and, if it is true, who was Ms Anwyl’s client and what was the subject of the briefing to Cabinet? (2) Given that the Premier has issued a directive banning his ministers and their staff from meeting lobbyists Brian Burke and Julian Grill, will the Premier explain to the House why this ban does not apply also to Ms Anwyl and other former Labor members of Parliament turned lobbyists? Dr G.I. GALLOP

(1)-(2) Unless I am mistaken, I do not recall Cabinet being briefed yesterday by Dampier Nitrogen Pty Ltd. Subcommittees of the Cabinet do meet. I believe the economic policy subcommittee of the Cabinet met yesterday. Indeed, Dampier Nitrogen made a presentation to the subcommittee of Cabinet about some issues it has concerning the Burrup Peninsula. I believe also that Megan Anwyl was with the company representatives when they made that briefing. That situation bears no relationship to Cabinet’s policy about meetings with Julian Grill and Brian Burke. Mr M.J. Birney: What is the difference? Dr G.I. GALLOP: There is a clear difference, and that is the difference on which the Government works. If the member for Kalgoorlie does not understand that difference he is obviously not living in contemporary Western Australia.
