(1) Yes.
(2) In Western Australia, Section 297 of the Road Traffic Code 2000 establishes authority for the Commissioner of Main Roads (and an authorised body) to erect, alter or take down road signs, road markings or traffic-control signals and creates offences associated with unauthorised persons erecting, altering or taking down signs, markings and traffic-control signals.
(3) It is an offence under Section 297(5) of the Road Traffic Code 2000 for a person to erect or display a false representation or imitation of a traffic sign. The modified penalty for this offence is 1 Penalty Unit ($50.00).
Section 297(4a) of the Road Traffic Code 2000 establishes an offence if a person erects a traffic sign without the appropriate consent or approval, this carries a modified penalty of 1 Penalty Unit ($50.00).
It is also an offence to remove, interfere, damage or take down any existing road signs or markings without consent of the Commissioner of Main Roads, Section 297(4) Road Traffic Code 2000, the modified penalty for this offence is 1 Penalty Unit ($50.00).
