CANNABIS — LEGALISATION
648. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I refer the minister to a recent
report published in the United States that cites numerous academic papers
showing that states that continue to criminalise cannabis see people initiate
use at a younger age, consume more frequently and drive while under the
influence more often than those in states that have legalised cannabis.
(1) Is the
government committed, as I am, to reducing both youth experimentation and
drug-related driving incidents?
(2) If it is,
will the minister follow the science and pass these latest findings to the WA
Police Force, the Road Safety Commission and
the Road Safety Council so that they can each consider the potential impacts of the research here in WA and advise him accordingly?
