METRONET EAST
REDEVELOPMENT AREA
426. Ms L.L. BAKER to the Minister for Planning:
I
refer to the McGowan Labor government's commitment to delivering
Metronet to create more jobs and growth in local economies. Can the minister outline to the house how the Metronet
east redevelopment area will deliver quality infill housing, employment
and business growth around new Metronet train station precincts, such as
Bayswater?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for Bayswater
for the question.
Several members interjected.
Ms L.L. Baker : I'll
take that!
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : What did I say?
Bayswater? But Bayswater is such a big part of the member for Maylands's
constituency!
We have announced the creation of
the Metronet east precincts. It is all about creating certainty for planning
and infrastructure investment, and making sure that we make the most of the
train stations that we are building and upgrading across the community with
density around train stations to support small business. We recognise the
heritage and character of the communities in which they will be operating. So
far, it has been welcomed by a big portion of the Bayswater community. It is
sending the signal that we are serious about how we plan our suburbs. I read
the apartment survey research results today. The good thing about those results
is that they show that people want to be close to public transport. When people
are buying an apartment or unit, one of the highlights is being close to public
transport. We believe that public transport is fundamental to how we plan our
cities and suburbs . Making sure we create density in the appropriate places
will relieve pressure on streets and in other suburbs. There will be more jobs
and investment certainty. The community, unlike the opposition, supports our
plan for density. The member for Scarborough has said that she will wind it
back and create uncertainty for the investment industry and the community.
Ms S.F. McGurk interjected.
The SPEAKER : Minister!
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : She said
that she will unwind our plans. The member for Cottesloe has made some
extraordinary attacks. He was attacking Subiaco councillors, by saying —
They will all be thrown off because
of the sleazy deals they are doing around infill in Subiaco.
Mr J.N. Carey : He won't
mention them. Where are the sleazy dealings? He won't name them
outside! Gutless!
Withdrawal of Remark
The SPEAKER : Member for
Perth, you will withdraw that last remark.
Mr J.N. Carey : I withdraw.
The SPEAKER : I still call
you to order.
Questions without
Notice Resumed
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : The member
for Cottesloe talks about sleazy deals, but the deal that we want to know about
today is the deal between the member for Scarborough and the Leader of the
Opposition. What is the deal? All those cowards the member for Scarborough was
talking about obviously believe and understand that there is a deal. She should
come clean today and tell us what the deal is. She is not willing to do the
hard work. She is letting the Leader of the Opposition do the hard work. She
wants to slide in at the last minute. The member for Scarborough should come
clean with the deal. She should tell us what the deal is so that everybody can
see exactly the character she has.
