MOWANJUM WATER FOR FOOD PROJECT
703. Hon STEPHEN DAWSON to the minister
representing the Minister for Water:
I refer to the Mowanjum Water for Food project.
(1) What is the current status of
the project?
(2) How many local residents of the Mowanjum community have —
(a) undertaken training directly
linked to the project to date;
(b) gained direct employment as a
result of the project to date; and
(c) have current employment as a
direct result of the project?
(3) What is the
value of funds expended to date on the project and how have these funds been
spent?

I thank the honourable member some
notice of the question. On behalf of the Minister for Water, I answer —
(1) The Mowanjum Irrigation trial is currently being established.
(2) (a) Nil; refer to part (1).
(b) Ten.
(c) Five.
(3) As at 31 May
2015, $2.266 million has been spent on site preparation, irrigation equipment,
production and monitoring bores, groundwater investigations and project
management.
