As a supplementary question, does the Premier therefore support the call of the federal Leader of the Opposition, Simon Crean, for the Government to assist by dropping electricity charges to drought areas? Dr G.I. GALLOP

AnswerView source ↗

The Government has announced its policy on what it will do to deal with the drought. As far as I know, the concept of reducing electricity charges specifically to deal with the drought is not part of the Government’s policy. A part of the Government’s policy, which we carried out when we came to government, was to restore the uniform electricity tariff to users of power on the remote system in Western Australia. Several members interjected. Dr G.I. GALLOP: Is the Leader of the Opposition saying he would reduce electricity charges? He interjected; he should answer that. Mr C.J. Barnett: I did not interject. Dr G.I. GALLOP: That is not part of the Government’s policy; the Opposition knows that. By logical implication, we obviously do not support Mr Crean’s call.
