FORESTRY — LEWIN
BLOCK — CLEAR-FELLING
545. Hon DIANE EVERS to the minister representing the
Minister for Forestry:
(1) Is the
minister aware of the current community activities at Lewin Block near
Manjimup, protesting the imminent clear-felling of the forest?
(2) Is the
minister aware of the community concerns that this forest should be considered
old growth even though it does not meet the current definition of old-growth
forest?
(3) Will the
minister please table the current stumpage schedules for native forest logs—that
is, the pricing schedule for both base and net values for all native forest
logs by type, grade and any other specifications; and, if not, why not?

I thank the member for the question. The Minister for
Forestry has provided the following answers.
(1) Yes.
(2) The
Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions sets the criteria and
definition for old-growth forests. This requires a minimum area of a two-hectare
stand and is the highest standard used by any jurisdiction in Australia.
(3) The table
below lists the most recent gross stumpage rates for the main native forest
products. It lists the published prices from recent tender processes, but not
when prices are confidential through contractual negotiations.
I seek leave to have the table
incorporated into Hansard .
Leave granted.
