In regard to the Minister’s letter to Mr Ian Burrows of Bunbury (ref 8088) and to the incident, referred to in that letter, on 5 January 2002 I ask -
(a) is it correct that the multanova was attached to a 70km/hr zone sign;
(b) if so, was it chained to that sign;
(c) does Police Service policy preclude placement of multanovas within 100metres either side of speed zone signs;
(d) did Police Service management specifically direct that the multanova should be located adjacent to this speed zone sign;
(e) how many infringements were issued through the use of the multanova at this location on 5 January 2002;
(f) what action will be taken if indeed the multanova was located contrary to Police Service policy, without specific direction from Police Service management;
(g) how did the road crash history for the immediate vicinity of the 70km/hr speed sign warrant placement of camera surveillance;
(h) specifically, how many road accidents were there in the past 12 months in the immediate vicinity of the 70km/hr speed sign;
(i) how did the topography of the immediate vicinity of the 70km/hr sign warrant placement of camera surveillance;
(j) how many complaints, from local residents, were recorded over the past 12 months in relation to speeding vehicles in the vicinity of the 70 km/hr sign;
(k) is this 70km/hr sign in an area deemed to be a ‘high risk area’;
(l) if so, for what reason; and
(m) what other ‘high risk areas’ have been identified on the South Western Highway in and near to the Boyanup townsite?
