WATER CORPORATION — UTAKARRA —
SEWERAGE INFRASTRUCTURE
580. Hon DARREN WEST to the minister
representing the Minister for Water:
I refer to the ongoing issues faced
by local residents as a result of the stench from the sewerage infrastructure
located in Clematis Crescent in Utakarra.
(1) Does the
minister find it appropriate that after many years of complaints to the Water
Corporation, numerous members of Parliament and the minister herself, local
residents are still suffering with the effects of the odour both inside and
outside their homes?
(2) Will the
minister meet with individual residents in order to find a solution to their
ongoing issues; and, if not, why not?
(3) Will the
minister consider compensation to those residents who have suffered
inconvenience and reduced property values as a result of her inaction; and, if
not, why not?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question. I respond on behalf of the Minister for Water.
(1) A full
upgrade of the Karloo wastewater pump station in Clematis Street, Utakarra, was
successfully completed in late February 2015.
(2) I made a
commitment to residents during a visit to Utakarra in August 2014 that I would
work with the Water Corporation to resolve the odour issues associated with the
Karloo pump station and I am confident that, through the works that have been
undertaken, that commitment has been met.
(3) The Water
Corporation has already assisted residents through offering alternative
accommodation when odours have been experienced. However, if there are
residents who believe they have a legitimate claim for compensation, they are
able to raise this directly with the Water Corporation.
