SCHOOLS — BUDGET — COMMONWEALTH
FUNDING
537. Hon SUE ELLERY to the Minister for
Education:
I refer to the federal budget cut to funding to Western
Australian schools of $350 million over the next three years compared with what
was promised in the last federal budget.
(1) Does the minister support this cut?
(2) What impact is it likely to have on WA schools?

(1)–(2)
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. We are still
working through it with the commonwealth, but, fundamentally, the reason for
the reduction in funding is the result of reduced student growth. It reflects
that reduced growth. I am more than willing to provide a more substantial
response once we have worked through it with the commonwealth. At this stage
that is the reason and it is reflected in our budget.
