WELLINGTON SQUARE — SERVICE PROVIDERS
699. Hon SALLY TALBOT to the
Minister for Aboriginal Affairs:
I refer to the statement by the member for Perth, Eleni
Evangel, that ''one agency needed to be established as the 'lead
agency', which would act as a parent body for all service providers in
Wellington Square''.
(1) Has an agency been given this role?
(2) If yes to (1) —
(a) why;
(b) what will the role consist of;
and
(c) how will its effectiveness be
monitored and evaluated?
(3) If no to (1), why not?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of this question.
(1)–(3) This matter will be
considered by the Aboriginal Affairs cabinet subcommittee.
Just by way of explanation, the
point of the Aboriginal Affairs cabinet subcommittee is to coordinate
government departments when there is a complex issue such as the one referred
to in that statement by the member for Perth. As the member would be well
aware, not one individual or one independent agency can be responsible for the
issues within Wellington Square. The cabinet subcommittee will consider this
issue and another agency will take—literally—the lead, and that
will be the coordinating agency for all the departments.
