economic recovery through its record investment in road projects across Western Australia. Can the minister update the
house on the delivery of this government's record pipeline of road

I thank the member for Kalamunda for
the question. Spending on transport projects and road projects has been a priority
of this government. There are a record number of projects, contracts and
companies out there supporting Western Australian
workers and creating certainty for the Western Australian employment market. We
invested over $1.2 billion in road
projects last year and $1.4 billion in the current year. I will give members a snapshot
of how this government compares with the previous government. Under the
previous government's expectations, in 2018–19, it would have spent $192 million on roads in
regional WA. We spent $628 million in the same year. In 2019–20, the former government forecast $139 million
being spent on regional road projects, but we spent $653 million on regional road projects, supporting regional communities, regional road safety and, of
course, regional employment.
It is good to look back at some of
the projects that we have already completed as part of our commitment to Western Australia. Many members may remember that
when we renegotiated the Perth Freight Link money as one of our priority
projects, the former government said it could not be done. The Liberal Party
said it could not be done. We renegotiated it, and look what we have delivered.
We have delivered the dualling of Wanneroo Road, member for Wanneroo, from Joondalup Drive to Flynn Drive; the Wanneroo
Road and Ocean Reef Road interchange— done; the Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive interchange will be
completed in the next month; the Reid Highway dual carriageway—completed;
the Mitchell Freeway southbound widening—completed; the Kwinana Freeway
southbound on-ramp at Manning Road, member for South Perth—the ''Johnny
McGrath on-ramp''—completed.
Mr J.E. McGrath : The greatest
achievement.
Ms R. SAFFIOTI : One of my
greatest achievements—sorry, the member for South Perth's
greatest!
The Murdoch Drive connection—completed;
the Kwinana Freeway northbound widening from Russell Road to Roe Highway—completed;
the smart freeway, members—completed; the Armadale Road upgrade
duplication from Anstey Road to Tapper Road—completed; the Roe Highway,
Kalamunda, road intersection upgrade is on its way; the Karel Avenue upgrades
will be completed soon; the Armadale Road to North Lake Bridge, a more than
$200 million project, is well underway; and, of course, High Street is also well
underway. There is so much more going on:
the Bunbury Outer Ring Road, the Albany ring-road, Karratha–Tom Price
Manuwarra Red Dog Highway stage 3 is completed, and the South Coast
Highway project. So much work has been undertaken and so much is underway, but
there is so much more to be done. This is about supporting Western Australia's
economic recovery, supporting WA workers and making sure that there is a pipeline
of investment and work for Western Australians for years to come.
