TAB —
PRIVATISATION
780. Mr J.E. McGRATH to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Can
the Premier therefore inform the Parliament of his view on whether the TAB is
worth as much now as it might have been worth three or four years ago?

AnswerView source ↗

The question now is: because the
Liberal Party failed to sell the TAB, how much is it now worth compared with
when the Liberal Party failed to sell it? Is that it?
Mr J.E. McGrath : When you
opposed our sale.
Mr M. McGOWAN : The member for
South Perth has only been in Parliament since 2005—only 14 years—but
he was in government for eight and a half years with a majority in both houses
of Parliament, and the Premier of the day, Mr Barnett, the member's
good friend, said that he wanted to sell the TAB. He did not bring forward a plan,
legislation or a proposal. He did not put it through both houses of Parliament.
We said before the election that we would consult the industry and be guided by
its views. That is exactly what we have done. The member's history, as
I outlined a moment ago, is of opposing the sale of the TAB for a number of
years and then changing his position based upon circumstances.
Mr J.E. McGrath : Welcome to
my world!
Mr M. McGOWAN : I would say
that I am in the same boat as the member for South Perth. What did he say?
Mr R.H. Cook : Welcome to my
world.
Mr M. McGOWAN : Exactly! The
member for South Perth and I had a position 13 years ago, and we moved—he
moved his position and I moved my position. I do not get the member's
point.
