Over the past year, the Disability Services Commission has held regular information forums for service providers and My Way Coordinators in the Lower South West WA NDIS My Way trial site to prepare all parties for the roll-out of the trial. Similar information forums are being run for service providers and My Way Coordinators in the Cockburn-Kwinana trial site.
The Disability Services Commission has allocated $500,000 via grants to a range of peak bodies to undertake various information and development activities to ready the disability and mental health service providers to prepare for and operate in the WA NDIS My Way trial sites. These grants are focused on providing information to middle managers and developing recruitment and personnel training capacity to enable services providers to operate within an individualised funding environment in which people with disability have choice, control and flexibility to design and direct their services.
The Disability Services Commission has also engaged a range of peak bodies, including the state office of National Disability Services and Western Australian Individualised Services to undertake a number of significant sector development activities to prepare the sector to operate within the WA NDIS My Way trial sites. The development activities aim to provide customised and targeted information, specialised training, recruitment and traineeships, and build service providers' capacity to manage structural changes such as individualised planning and quality systems changes.
The Disability Services Commission and Mental Health Commission have worked together to seek and procure new service providers in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) trial sites that are able to meet the needs of people who meet the NDIS' eligibility criteria.
