PROPOSED TRAIL
BIKE FACILITY — GIDGEGANNUP
621. Hon LINDA SAVAGE to the minister representing the
Minister for Planning:
I refer to the proposed trial of a trail bike facility at
lots 119 and 120 O'Brien Road in Gidgegannup.
(1) Are these
lots currently managed by the WA Planning Commission?
(2) Is the
minister aware that lots 119 and 120 are immediately adjacent to Walyunga
National Park?
(3) Is the
minister aware that the lots were purchased by the state for addition to the
national park?
(4) What
community consultation has been undertaken before the occurrence of the
proposed trail bike Minikhana?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1) Yes.
(2) Yes.
(3) I am
advised that lot 119 and the western half of lot 120 were purchased by the
Western Australian Planning Commission for addition to the Walyunga National
Park as part of the broader Darling Range Regional Park network.
(4) Discussion
on a potential use of the cleared land within the eastern half of lot 120, also
purchased by the Western Australian Planning Commission and now reserved for
parks and recreation, has occurred with the Department of Conservation and
Environment, City of Swan and Motorcycling Western Australia. As part of the
preliminary consideration of this site for a junior off-road motorcycling
education and training facility, a Minikhana has been proposed to test the
potential of the site and to demonstrate to residents in the area the nature
and impact of the proposal before proceeding to a more definite proposal, which
can then be put out for full and detailed public consultation.
