(e) The GSDC undertakes continuous improvement measures and assesses inputs/output on an ongoing basis. LPG gas was used in some previous lease vehicles. To reduce overheads and fuel consumption GSDC reduced the cylinder capacities of its pool vehicles to four cylinders. At the time of leasing, four cylinder vehicles required modification to use LPG. The cost to complete this modification would have made redundant estimated savings from using LPG over the lease term of the vehicle. GSDC will revisit the possibility of LPG or alternate powered vehicles as and when its vehicles are changed over at the end of their lease.

(e) The types of vehicles required by the agency have not been available for purchase with LPG or dual-fuel capability at the time of purchase. Other vehicles with LPG fuel engines were investigated but were found to be not fit for the agency's requirements at the time. Another factor in not purchasing LPG fuelled vehicles is the restricted access to gas in remote and outback areas that the vehicles travel in regularly. A review of all vehicles available is made each time a vehicle is ordered and the choice made on suitability for purpose.
