Lotterywest (1) Yes, I am aware that recent research undertaken by the South Australian Centre for Economic Studies which uses data collected by the Tasmanian Gaming Commission reports that the expenditure on lotteries products is the highest in Australia. I note also that this research reports that in 2002-2003 Western Australians spent on average 1.60% of HDI on all forms of gambling, while in Victoria the level of expenditure was 3.58%, more than twice that of Western Australia. (2) I was briefed on the sales of Lotterywest products showing that Western Australians spend more per capita on lottery products than in other Australian States when I assumed responsibility as Minister for Lotterywest. I have now received a full copy of the research report from which the Member is deriving the material for this and other recent Questions.
