❓ Mr. Barron-Sullivan questions Premier Gallop on an alleged broken election promise regarding education in Bunbury and Eaton, specifically concerning the construction of a 'super school' versus expanding Eaton Community College. Premier Gallop deflects, stating the Minister for Education addressed the issue and consultation occurred, a claim disputed by Mr. Barron-Sullivan.

I refer to the Premier’s election promise to provide for Eaton Community College to be expanded to include years 11 and 12, to the Labor Party policy that states that Labor will ensure that planning for the new high school at Eaton includes years 11 and 12, and to a commitment in an election brochure bearing the Premier’s name and his photograph, headed “Labor is opposed to super schools in Bunbury”, that expresses Labor’s unequivocal opposition to a senior college or super school in Bunbury. How does the Premier explain his Government’s decision, announced yesterday in this Chamber, to build a super school in Bunbury, contrary to the Premier’s election manifesto, but not to expand Eaton Community College to include years 11 and 12, contrary to the Premier’s own personal commitment? Why is the Premier breaking these important election promises to the people of Bunbury and Eaton, which he endorsed personally? Dr G.I. GALLOP

This matter was dealt with at some length yesterday by the Minister for Education and Training. He made it quite clear in his answer that, as a result of the consultation process that has occurred in that area with the stakeholders, a position has been developed by the Government. Mr D.F. Barron-Sullivan: There has been no consultation. Dr G.I. GALLOP: If the member for Mitchell ever wants to speak about anything, we should pause and have a close look at what he has said and consult the facts. Usually, there is a bit of a difference between the truth and what the member talks about. The Minister for Education and Training outlined very clearly to the Parliament yesterday the background and circumstances that led the Government to the conclusions it has reached about education in the Bunbury district.
