The direct costs to date have been: · $36,557,259 – workers compensation claim payments from April 2001 to January 2003. · $228,748 – seven housing indemnity insurance claims under the Government’s Home Indemnity Insurance Rescue Package for builders and consumers, initiated following the collapse of HIH Insurance, and administered by the Insurance Commission of Western Australia. The indirect costs to date have been: · $89,176 – includes audit fees, actuarial fees, legal costs, accounting costs & administration fees related to the workers compensation claims. Staff costs and other resources at the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection have not been separately costed and have been dealt with as part of the Department’s normal operations.
