SYNERGY —
BOARD CHAIRMAN
551. Mr W.J. JOHNSTON to the
Minister for Energy:
(1) Is the
minister aware that section 8(4) of the Electricity Corporations Act 2005
requires the minister to appoint a person to the board of Synergy only after
consultation with the board?
(2) Does the
minister recall that he was the minister who introduced this requirement into
the act?
(3) In this
regard, on what specific date did the minister consult the board of Synergy regarding the appointment of Mr Lyndon
Rowe as chairman of Synergy?
(4) Further, on
what specific date did the minister consult the board of Synergy on the
appointment of Mr David Hunt?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
member for the question.
(1)–(4) Yes, I know that;
the board was made up of two people and we consulted them. That was adequate.
They both agreed wholeheartedly to these fine appointments. Lyndon Rowe has received
excellent acclaim all across the country for his ability, his knowledge of the
electricity sector and his suitability for being the full-time chairman of
Synergy. We understand the act—we followed it. I cannot remember exact
days. Put a question on notice, and I will respond to the member about the
exact days we discussed the appointment with them, but everything is kosher on
this one.
