I refer to the staffing levels at Albany Regional Prison. Proposed alterations to nightshift procedures are scheduled to take effect by the end of October. (1) How many staff will be on night duty when the changes take place? (2) How many staff were on night duty prior to the changes? (3) Prison officers have a concern for their safety. How is this issue being addressed by the Government? (4) Are local police expected to respond to any confirmed breaches of perimeter security? Hon KIM CHANCE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) The release of details of the number of staff on duty would be prejudicial to the security of the prison. (3) A security review of Albany Regional Prison recommended that the armed perimeter security night patrol be replaced by a random patrol with a consequential reduction in staffing levels. As a result of concerns raised by staff, security within the prison has been increased by one prison officer. (4) Yes, as consistent with normal operational procedures.
